France becoming the fashion center of the world
King Louis XIV of France, who ruled in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, was no mere fan of fashion. He considered fashion to be an important part of France’s economic power. He has invested heavily in supporting the local textile industry and has not allowed foreigners to overtake them in this area. Louis and his finance minister, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, believed that just as gold mines in Peru would benefit Spain, fashion would benefit France no less. Since that time, France has become a world fashion center.
