Why is the water in the oceans and seas salty, but fresh in rivers?

солёная вода

The main part of the salts contained in sea water was formed at the dawn of geological history, with the emergence of the World Ocean. The volcanic gases present in the atmosphere, reacting with water, formed acids. Those reacted with metal silicates in the rocks of the ocean floor, generating salts. Some more salts are brought into the seas by rivers, which wash them out of the minerals on the land. River water entering the sea evaporates, and salts accumulate.

Why is barbecue so called?

Rivers are usually fresh water, because they feed on precipitation that does not contain salts, and flow along long-washed channels. And yet, in some arid mountainous areas (for example, in the Kopetdag), salty rivers exist.
